North Fayette wrestling crowned three champions in taking second place at the prestigious Lynx Invitational at North Linn Saturday.

Nick Baumler (170), Zach Bruns (160) and Austin DeMuth (145) each won championships; Jared Kerr (138) and Jordan Larson (132) were runners-up.

Larson won his first two matches by major decision, but he injured an ankle and finished the match on one leg, kind of like the movie, “The Karate Kid.” However, he was unable to wrestle in the championships and lost by forfeit.

Larson’s injury was later diagnosed as a sprain and should be ready when the TigerHawks take to the mat at home Thursday, Jan. 8, against MFL/MM and Postville. Saturday, Jan. 10 the TigerHawks will be at the tourney in Tripoli.

It took a fourth-quarter rally, but the North Fayette Valley girls won their first basketball game of the season, 46-42, over South Winn Friday in Calmar.

The first half was a seesaw affair with SW taking an 8-5 advantage in the first quarter, but the TigerHawks rallied for a 19-18 lead by halftime.

The Warriors responded with a 17-13 edge in the third quarter.

One thing noted about the NFV girls this season is they don’t quit. Over the final eight minutes they put on the defensive clamps and outhustled their hosts, 14-7, to pick up win number one.

Our community is so fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers who give of their time, talent, and hard work to make such a beautiful, inspirational display possible.

Thank you to all the volunteers for making such a special holiday display for our community to enjoy and share with visitors from other communities.

It's all about tradition when Bill and Jan Prochaska's children come home to Fayette for Christmas.

For a couple of weeks prior to the arrival of Christmas Eve, Bill and Jan begin preparing for some of the favorite traditions of their children, Mike and Melissa, and planning for the most enjoyed activities of the grandchildren: Allyson, Ryne and Tanner Prochaska and Makenzie and Connor Spensley.
