The 2015 Fayette County Fair will have a much different look this year when it rolls around August 5 – 9.

Country superstar Eric Paslay will perform Saturday night, Aug. 8. Confederate Railroad and Matthew Kane will join him on stage as the highlighting performance of the 2015 fair.

“Hundreds of tickets have already been sold for the concert,” noted Fayette County Fair Board secretary Matt Egan.

The grandstand events will also feature the USRA Iron Man stock cars and the Corn Belt Clash late models on Friday night, Aug. 7 and the mud bog on Sunday, Aug. 9.

One of the new additions for the 2015 fair is the donkey races, which will be held Thursday night, Aug. 6, in the horse arena. This will be a first for the Fayette County Fair, and will surely provide plenty of entertainment for people of all ages.

The rides will also be back after making their long-awaited return in 2014. Merriam’s Midway Shows will provide rides, vendors, and games for the children.

Biosecurity measures increased at local poultry/egg farm

Valley High School grad Kim Kleve is the employee at Hillandale Egg near West Union, assigned the task of  disinfecting the tires of every vehicle that passes through the gates. One of the entries to the company has been closed off to assure every vehicle is seen, and properly sanitized as biosecurity measures are increased as long as the avian influenza continues to be a threat. The threat that avian influenza could impact more Iowa poultry laying facilities than the five already identified has Hillandale Egg in West Union on red alert.

“We’ve always had somewhat stringent biosecurity rules,” said local Hillandale manager Duane Mangskau, explaining that access to the site is limited to employees, delivery trucks and contractors. Uniforms are required by employees, and sanitizers and foot baths are also required.

But in recent weeks since avian influenza was identified at commercial laying facilities in western Iowa, “we’ve taken that up a notch,” Mangskau said.
