Last year West Central volleyball won just two games. This year, just three weeks into the regular season, the Blue Devils have already matched that mark with a victory over Postville on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Blue Devils fall in rain-soaked second half

Andrew Squires was injured during play against Turkey Valley and probably won’t be ready for West Central’s Homecoming match-up with Central City. When Squires went out of the game, so, too, went their rushing attack.

The weather hasn’t been very cooperative on Friday nights over the last month.

On Friday, Sept. 18, during the second half it was again a downpour at Turkey Valley as the West Central Blue Devils took on the Trojans.

Unlike against Clarksville, whom the Blue Devils shone in a fourth-quarter rain shower after a lightning delay, it was Turkey Valley that was the better team Friday night.

Fayette Mayor Andrew Wenthe asked City Administrator Christie Dennis to draft an ordinance in response to a situation on the Friday night of Watermelon Days that was reviewed by the council Monday night.

After Watermelon Days Committee members were denied use of the fire station for the community supper because they hadn’t submitted a written request, Wenthe said, “It’s clear there should be a policy in place for use of public meeting places/facilities.”
