It was an epic weekend for the Martin family of Fayette.

Not only did 86-year-old patriarch A.W. Martin celebrate his 150th hog sale Saturday night, Sept. 12, but the business exceeded a cumulative $5 million in sales as Mike Williams cried the auction from the family sale barn.

As the sale got underway, A.W. offered a few remarks about how his father, A.W. Sr., started in the purebred Hampshire swine business, from a farm near Marion in 1939. A.W. Jr.’s son, Doug, has been involved in 141 of the 150 sales held to date, and now Doug’s son, William, is also involved in the business. Three sales are held annually from the farm on K Avenue where Doug resides.

Return to form

The faces of TigerHawk Dylan Larson (80) and a CP-U runner show the range of emotions after a big play. Friday, the Pointers were backed up on their 1 and tried to punch the ball out for more room. However, Juan Harris (51) and Larson stuffed the hole, knocking the runner back into the end zone for a two-point safety to give NFV a 14-0 lead. CP-U had to kick back to the TigerHawks, who then marched 51 yards in eight plays to give the home team a three-touchdown lead in a game they won, 35-0.

In a return to the form fans and coaches expected to see from the 2015 NFV football squad, the TigerHawks put on one of the most dominating performances ever seen in West Union by a home team against a ranked squad.

North Fayette Valley absolutely destroyed the visitors from Center Point-Urbana, 35-0.

The 35-point margin of victory does not even show how much the TigerHawks dominated the game.

Halva wins his 2nd TigerHawk

Danny Halva is all alone in first as he makes a sharp right turn and eyes the new hill in this year’s race. The course changed because of soccer matches at the W.U. Rec Complex. The old course went through the parking lot and near the soccer fields. Halva won his second straight Invite in his last home meet as a TigerHawk. (Jerry Wadian photo)
