One of the things 10-year-old Jaycee Lopez loves about the North Fayette Valley Mentoring program isn’t just that she gets to spend time with her friend Amber Linderbaum, but that she also gets to hang out with Amber’s extended family members.

Linderbaum, a second/third-grade teacher at Valley Elementary, signed on to be a mentor when Jaycee was in kindergarten at the school where she now teaches.

It was a roller-coaster week for the North Fayette Valley boys’ basketball team last week.

After coming within a point against UIC leader MFL/MM on Tuesday (Jan. 19), the TigerHawks crushed Central Elkader on Friday but were blown out by Class 3A Crestwood on Saturday.

The Bulldogs have lost just once in the UIC, but NFV came within a bouncer off the rim of pulling off the upset in the final second.
