When most people think of Iowa high school wrestling, they think of one of the toughest and most physical sports in the country. People think of the hundreds of hours that grapplers train each and every year to reach their goals. People think about the hours of dedication that go into a successful season.

However, when people think of girls in the sport of wrestling, they often think of the spirited cheerleaders that sit matside to help cheer on their school’s wrestlers as they battle it out, but South Winneshiek sophomore Felicity Taylor is determined to change that perceptio.

With a 78-31 loss to Central Elkader on Thursday, Feb. 11, in the Class 1A Region 3 first round the Blue Devils ended the season with a single win against Waterloo Christian, 57-55, on Jan. 4.

While most programs claim success or failure based on their win/loss totals, those with a young core of talent like the Blue Devils measure success in a different capacity.  It isn’t all about wins and losses, but whether or not the team was better at the end of the season than at the beginning.
