The proposed new Fayette County Secondary Roads Department Maintenance Complex has been a hot-button issue since it was introduced a year ago.

Some, especially those who live on rural roads, believe that the money could be used for other projects, such as road improvement and bridge maintenance.

Last July, a decision was made by the South Winneshiek school board to allow members of the Turkey Valley cross country program, which lacked participation, to join forces with the Warrior cross country program. The decision, which moved South Winneshiek from Class 1A to Class 2A, yielded immediate results, including a third-place finish for the girls’ team at the State Cross Country Meet last fall.

Five South Winneshiek wrestlers will advance to Districts after Saturday’s Sectional Tournament at Sumner-Fredericksburg High School. As a team, the Warriors placed third overall, missing the mark to advance to Regional Duals by one spot.

Of the five Warriors that will compete at the District Tournament Saturday in Jesup, there were three champions, including Rodney Schwartzhoff (132), Landers Kuboushek (195), and Anthony Emanuel (220). Also advancing were runners-up Paxten DeVilbiss (120) and Manning Kuboushek (182).
