The Clayton County Supervisors approved the first reading of a rezoning request of 754.06 acres of land from agriculture to heavy industrial by Pattison Sand Company of Clayton at a public hearing Monday afternoon.

With approximately 30 people in attendance, the board approved five restrictions that amended  the rezoning request near Clayton Township after public outcry at previous meetings. Those include setbacks for mine vent shafts from an adjacent property line, well damage, well monitoring, underground mining, and making sure the emergency management coordinator gets annual reports.
