It didn’t take Mollie Franzen long to realize she had made a rewarding decision when becoming a mentor with the North Fayette Valley Community Coalition Mentoring Program.

Franzen’s mentee, Haley Voshell, has learned a lot from the 26-year-old Valley Elementary paraeducator, but one thing Franzen might not have expected was what Voshell has been able to show her.

The West Central girls’ basketball team continues to head in a positive direction under first-year head coach Erin Buehler.

The team has tripled its win total from a season ago with a 55-48 home victory over Cedar Valley Christian on Thursday, Jan. 12. This season’s three victories equals the number of victories the girls had over the last two seasons. It’s the first time since the Blue Devils were 3-19 during the 2012-2013 school year that the program has won more than two games in a season.
