A number of volunteers worked together either making quilt blocks, donating fabric and/or services to complete the two quilts pictured behind this group. On Monday night, March 6, the group gathered in Fayette for the unveiling of the fundraising project to benefit the renovation of the 4-H, FFA and Open Class Exhibit building at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in West Union. Raffle tickets are being sold on the quilt at back left, while the quilt at back right was won by Rachel Bushman, area 4-H’er from Castalia. Pictured are (front, l-r) Cindy Jensen, Pat Baumler, Summer Handel, Jeanine Tellin, Rachel Bushman, Cynthia Yearous, Peg Lerch; (second row) Zelpha Henderson, Terri Zuck, Arlene Klatt, Ruth Meyer, Ann Jens, Janell Bradley, Michele Myrom, Meg Moellering, Ebby Whitford, Diane Ihde, Sam Ihde; (third row) Lou Ann Milks, Karen Hamlett, Joyce Knickerbocker, Lois McElvania, Deb Watson, Jane Blumhagen, Peg Sparrgrove, Caroline Bemiss; and (standing in back) Kristin Hamlett, Deb Mueller, Deb Thies, and Janis Breitsprecher. Friends of 4-H seeking $23,000 for exhibit building renovation
As Janis Breitsprecher has been telling folks for several years now, “Every quilt has a story, and every story should be told.” For the last several years Breitsprecher, with the help of a few friends, has organized the Arlington Days Quilt Show, which has been increasingly successful.
Upon retiring in January 2015, she created a “Bucket List” of things she planned to accomplish – one of which was winning a blue ribbon at the Fayette County fair.
