Head NFV softball coach Bob Lape’s chief area of concern to start the season was pitching depth.

Thursday, the duo of Makenna Koch and Kennedy Lape made their first varsity starts. Combined, they surrendered just 11 hits and one earned run as NFV swept Saint Ansgar in the opening games of the season, 3-0 and 3-2, in West Union.

Game one saw the first six batters from both teams go down in order.
