Diane M. Fay, formerly of Sumner, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at her home in Des Moines.  

On Sunday, July 23, a rosary will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. The family will then greet friends and relatives until 8 p.m. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24. 

All events will take place at Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner.

Robert Proctor

 

 

Robert W. Proctor, age 91, passed away at Manor Care Nursing Home in Waterloo, Iowa on July 5, 2017. 

Robert was one of two children born to Ralph and Wanda Proctor of Alpha, Ia.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his sister, Lorraine (Rollin) Krueger, stepchildren Roger Huschen of Alpha, IA and Lucinda (Vernon) Schmitz of West Union, IA, and three children, Luanne Douglas of Forest City, IA, Charlie Proctor of Boone, IA, and Tim (Jenny) Proctor of Patton, MO. 

Robert proudly served his country as a Private in the United States Army and was a cook during the WW II campaign in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion for 70 years.

The West Union swim team notched its fourth win of the season Thursday in its home waters, sinking Manchester, 446-209.

The team had a lot of swimmers perform well as the team gets ready for the Conference Meet Saturday in Strawberry Point.

The younger swimmers were particularly effective for West Union.

The girls’ 8-and-under medley of Leah Shreve, Gracie Kent-Thomas, Ella Sieck, and Trinity Starrett won gold with a time of 2:04.

122, Inc. restaurant in West Union will be closing its doors on Sunday, July 30, as owner Travis Rovang looks forward to a new adventure in life. 

After 3½ years owning and operating the local eatery, Rovang will be hanging up his apron and moving to Colorado Springs, Colo., to eventually take on a new business venture with some friends.

Accident claims life of longtime WU businessman

 

Willys Fritz, 83, of West Union died from injuries sustained in a car accident involving a West Union police officer. Fritz failed to yield as he pulled out of the Quillin’s parking lot into the Hwy. 150 northbound lane and was struck on his passenger side by Officer Bryson Hennigar, 23. Fritz’s truck did a 180 upon impact and came to a rest in the ditch.  (Chris DeBack photo)
