All I wanted was a teabag

All I wanted was a teabag

by Jerry Wadian

All I wanted was a teabag.   Mornings I need my coffee; like I really need to wake up. Evenings I prefer tea. And, as a brand,  I really like Twinnings. However, it can be hard to get locally, especially the types I like.

So, it was log on to Amazon and its to-my-door delivery.Two-day delivery? No problem with my Prime Account.

No sense in ordering just one box of 20 teabags, so I ordered a Darjeeling, Prince of Wales (two boxes since it’s my favorite) a Black Current, and an Assam. No Oolong because we have enough. It seems in my first test order failed to see the small print on number of boxes – but trust me we have more than enough.

I  placed my order; then, it got even more interesting.

Area 4-H members and the West Union Chamber Committee will be hosting the annual West Union Easter Basket Hunt on Saturday, April 3.

The event will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m., or until numbers are gone.

This year, the organizers have designed things to keep those who wish to do the basket hunt on foot separated from those who prefer to participate in the hunt while remaining in their vehicles.

All drivers are asked to enter the courthouse parking lot where volunteers will be handing out basket numbers for the hunt.

Walkers are asked to pick up their numbers at the West Union Historic Center.

A unique first year

When Carina Crookston, M.D. joined the Gundersen Palmer Lutheran team in January, 2020, she had no idea how much the world was about to change as the COVID19 global pandemic was just around the corner.  Working tirelessly with Gundersen staff such as Laurie Miller (right) the local doctor was able to work through the unusual times.  (Megan Molseed photo)

“Our Gundersen goal is to enrich lives; and I've seen this in action over the past year both with staff and with our patients,” said Carina Crookston, M.D.

“My nurses and rooming staff are the best, our lab techs decorate and adorn their masks with lights to help create smiles, our hospital lunch ladies make awesome salads,” Crookston continued with a smile.  “I'm thrilled to be delivering babies with such caring and competent OB (obstetrics) staff!”

When Dr. Crookston started her position at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran in West Union just over a year ago, she had no idea that her life, the life of her loved ones, and the entire world would change so drastically – altering everything so completely, just a few short months after her arrival.

“It was an opportunity that we might not ever get again,” said West Union racer Justin O’Brien, who competed at the Bristol Dirt Nationals earlier this month. “We had been thinking about going out since they announced the race and then finally decided a few months ago to actually do it. It was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.”

16+ become eligible for Covid-19 vaccine April 5

16+ become eligible for Covid-19 vaccine, April 5

Fayette County Public Health representative Jamie Hoey doesn’t foresee a huge rush for the Covid-19 vaccine once everyone over 16 years old, become eligible to get it.

“From a local public health stance, we may receive more calls, but do not intend on having another community clinic for this population as we feel our Fayette County partners have an excellent process for the community, including 16+. There are many individuals who want it but there are also a great deal who do not. At this time, we have not had much of an increase in calls due to Gov. Reynold’s 16+ guidance starting next month,” she reported.
