When voters in the South Winneshiek school district go to the polls on Nov. 2, there will be an important bond measure on their ballots. To meet the growing needs of students, the South Winneshiek Board of Education is calling for a special election for the sale of up to $19,155,000 in general obligation bonds to be held to cover the costs of a new high school.

A second ballot question will request authority to levy taxes exceeding $2.70 but not exceeding $4.05 per $1,000 valuation. The referendum vote will require a 60 percent super-majority  “Yes” vote to pass. More details on how taxpayers will be affected will be explained later in the article.
