Tiger golf sweeps WC

The Valley boys’ and girls’ golf teams combined for a sweep of West Central in the first meet of the season for both teams.

On Monday, April 8, at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette, the girls’ won, 186-276 and the boys’ triumphed, 177-191.

With rain and cold weather cancelling early meets and almost all outdoor practice sessions, golfers from both teams were glad just to be on a course again.

The Tiger girls, the sixth-place school in the Class 1A State Meet last year, began 2013 where it left off last season. Jodi Schott earned medalist honors by firing a 43, including two holes at par.

Lexi Moser beat teammate Chandler Luzum for medalist runner-up honors on a cardback after each came in at 46. Bailey Moser completed the varsity scoring by shooting a 51.

Also golfing for the Tigers were Alison Mitts and Jacqueline Fettkether (54), McKenna Lembke (61), and Alisha McTaggart (68).

Cheyenne Brickman led the Blue Devils with a 54.

The boys were led by Sam Klann, who was medalist runner-up with a round of 41. WC’s Chase Grimm won medalist honors with a 37 on his home course.

Chris Torkelson (43), Steven Williams (45), and Brady Guyer Jr. (48) were the other varsity scorers for the Tigers.

Others golfing for Valley were Alex Fettkether (49), Noah Larson (50), and Reagan Lansing (52).

Afterwards, head coach Robin Madole said of her two teams, “I was really proud of the fact that we had many golfers put in additional time this weekend to get ready for the start of the season. Their dedication paid off. Hopefully the weather will straighten out and we can get some regular practice in; we haven’t even played on our home course.”
