Alison Jo Garvin was born Dec. 1, 1987, to Scott and Joleen (Pape) Garvin at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union.

She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and confirmed at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union.

Alison graduated in 2006 from North Fayette High School, where she played trumpet in the band and participated in Danceline, football cheerleading and several school musicals. During her senior year, she participated in the British exchange program, traveling to Great Britain with other students from North Fayette.

After high school, Alison continued her education at Kirkwood Community College, the University of Northern Iowa and Kaplan University. She worked at Menards in Waterloo and Learn & Play Daycare in Cedar Falls.

Alison enjoyed spending time with friends, shopping, and going on vacations with her mom and dad. She also enjoyed boating, water-skiing and jet-skiing on the Mississippi River.

Alison's indomitable spirit touched many lives as she enjoyed making others laugh. Although her courageous battle against cystic fibrosis often limited her ability to fully partake in all she sought to do, she always fought to live an independent life. In January 2011 she bravely underwent a double lung transplant.

Her paternal grandparents Jack and Doris Garvin and uncle Robert Wilbur preceded her in death.

Alison is survived by her parents, Scott and Joleen Garvin of West Union; her maternal grandparents, Daryl and Marilyn Pape of Hawkeye; aunts and uncles Janell (Jeff) Bradley, Gail Wilbur, Joy (Mike) Eischeid, Paula (Jeff) Clark, Darren (Janie) Pape, Noel (Chynia) Garvin, and Mark (Jill) Garvin; many great-aunts and -uncles, cousins and friends.
