An astounding 21 strokes ahead of second-place New London (392), the Tiger girls’ golf team earned another trip to the State Golf Meet after claiming Monday’s Region 4 title.

“Despite intense bugs and wind, the depth of our team came through again,” said Valley coach Robin Madole. “Many teams only have four girls to choose from and we are deeper than that with six solid golfers.”

The top-ranked team in Class 1A also advanced two members as individuals as Lexi Moser finished runner-up with 41-42-83 strokes. Class 1A no. 1-ranked Jodi Schott finished two strokes back in third in the individual standings with 45-40-85.

Bailey Moser came in with a 13th-place finish, firing 52-49-101.

Also competing for Valley were Jacqueline Fettkether (51-51-102), Alison Mitts (54-51-105), and Chandler Luzum (57-54-111).

A year ago, the Tigers finished sixth at the State Golf Meet in Adel, with Schott earning individual honors in 10th place with 183 strokes.

The Valley team will return to the links at 9 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28-29, at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Team Results

1. Valley, 371; 2. New London, 392; 3. Starmont, 426; 4. Central City, 440; 5. East Buchanan, 448.
