‘Let there be love’

I am now getting to the point where I may be getting old. At least that is what some people would think, as my driver’s license says I am now past 72 years old.  Yes, there are many who are older than that, but I feel that I have enough years under my belt to at least start to have a relatively fair idea of what this life is about. Not that I am in any way an expert in such matters, but at least I should have earned the right to express my beliefs.

So, what have I learned? Well, probably the most important thing I have learned is that some things change after a period of time – at least some people’s attitudes about them. Yes, it seems that even things that we thought were cast in stone can be changed.

Just look at people’s attitude toward what is right or wrong. Today there are many who say that your right or wrong is not necessarily theirs. I agree that we are all entitled to our own opinions, but I must stop when people tell me that I do not have the same rights as they do to express my own beliefs.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, I have specific beliefs about life, both the present life and the next life. His teachings tell me there are some things that are right and some things that are wrong. Nowhere have I read that it says this is right or wrong depending on the specific situation. Right is right, and wrong is wrong.

Just because something does not fit your particular lifestyle, does it mean you can blend up your own concoction of right and wrong? Certainly you can. Does it change the basic thought involved? No! When you do this, you don't change the basis of your thought; you merely change your own opinion of something.

I have a hard time understanding what the roadblock is for people in learning what is right or wrong.  Jesus tells us throughout His Word that there is a sure way of knowing if something is right or wrong. His message is simple: “Let there be love.”  Is there love for your fellow mankind? Is there love for God and His creation?

If you put these thoughts to the test before you decide, I am sure you will find that this life is not so hard after all.
