The North Fayette Valley girls’ and boys’ track teams warmed up for the upcoming season by competing in the UIC Indoor Track Meet at Luther College in Decorah on Tuesday, March 25.

Both squads had away meets earlier this week, and both open the home season Friday. Dunkerton, Kee, Valley Lutheran, and West Central will bring coed teams. The Tipoli boys and Crestwood girls will also compete. Events start at 4:30 p.m.

No team scores were kept at the UIC Indoor and official placement in individual events was not always recorded.

However, the event was a great tune-up for the upcoming season, especially for North Fayette Valley squads that are trying to combine athletes from two different school systems while assessing which event suits a particular athlete.

The boys’ team continues to be impressive early in the season, collecting a dozen medals on Tuesday.

Danny Halva continued his domination of the 3200 with a winning time of 10:34.89. Leif Lujan served notice on the UIC by winning the 200-meter dash in 24.76. Dakota Moore and Devon Monnahan won silver in the shot and 1600, respectively. NFV won three individual bronze medals with Tanner Kuhens (long jump), Mitchell Carlson (400 dash), and Trevor Hurd (55 hurdles).

All five relay teams won medals with the 4x400, 4x800, and the distance medley all winning gold. The 4x200 placed second and the shuttle hurdle won bronze.

The girls’ team is much younger and has more work to do to find the right combinations.

The shuttle hurdle of Jessica Koch, Julie Breuer, Natalie Fettkether, and Jade Daughton won the only medal (silver) for the gals.

However, the girls were close to medals in at least four events as Josie Mackey (800), Natalie Moyle (1500), the 4x400 and 4x800 allfinished fourth.
