SW linksters finally on course

Snow, rain, and cold temperatures may have put the Warrior golf teams behind in hitting the fairways, but the talent on the team got the job done in the season opener over Waukon on Thursday.

“It was nice to see some first-time varsity players hit the ball so well,” said SW coach Doug Schweinefus. “It definitely is a good start to our season.”

Boys’ team

By a score of 164 to 216, the South Winn boys’ golf team managed to control the drives despite the windy conditions and were led by senior Trevor Schweinefus who carded a 38. Runner-up by virtue of a card-off was Nathan Winter over teammate Logan Schweinefus; both sophomores tallied 41 strokes. Jerod Heying was the team’s final scorer with 44 strokes.

Girls’ team

The South Winn girls’ golf team also swept the medals, winning, 208-255, over Waukon.

Tallying 44 strokes, Caitlin Holien was medalist, with Megan Hageman scoring 52 to earn runner-up. Filling up the varsity scorecard were Megan Elsbernd and Skyler Luzum with 54 and 58 strokes, respectively.

On Thursday, the Warrior golf teams will travel to Central Elkader.
