Warriors crowned UIC champs

In less than ideal running conditions, the South Winn boys’ track team maintained its focus and stayed relaxed throughout a lightning delay to win the UIC crown with 176 points over North Fayette Valley (169).

“The guys set their mind to doing the best they could to put themselves in position to compete for a conference title,” noted SW coach Scott Conway.

He added that, many times the difference between the title and runner-up comes down to the athletes that can dig deep for fifth through eighth places.

“Our guys did that and it made all the difference,” he praised.

The Warriors collected points in every event throughout the evening, which included six first-place finishes.

Chris Brincks easily won the high jump at 5’8” over teammate Jordan Rommes.

Seniors Devin Franzen and Garrett Bohach finished 1-2 in the 800m run as well.

It was the relays that also pushed South Winn to the forefront of the team standings with wins by the 4x100, 4x400, 4x800, and distance medley teams
