James R. Arthur, 73, of Oelwein passed away on September 3, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.  Visitation will be from 3-7 PM on Sunday September 7, 2014 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home and for one hour before the services at the church on Monday.  Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Monday September 8, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Oelwein with Pastor Tim Schoepf officiating.  He will be laid to rest in Long Grove Cemetery in Maynard at a later date.

Jim was born on October 23, 1940 to Robert and Evelyn (Simpson) Arthur in Maynard, IA.  He graduated from West Central High School in 1959.  Jim then served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp from 1959 to 1963.

In December of 1964, Jim was united in marriage to Mona Givens at First Baptist Church in Oelwein.  He was also baptized at First Baptist Church.  Jim was employed at Donaldson Company for 36 years. 

Jim was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Oelwein, The Westgate Conservation Club, and the Westgate American Legion.  He loved bow hunting, fishing and playing cards.  Jim enjoyed all sports, especially watching his grandkids play.

Jim is survived by his wife Mona; his daughters: Jennifer (John) Markey of Oelwein and Becci (Bill) Neil of Fairbank; his grandson Joseph Markey; his granddaughters: Christina, Katie and Kennadi Neil; his sister Dianne (Ronnie) Buhr of Westgate; his brother Dennis (Faith) Arthur of Vinton; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother William Arthur; and his nephew Robert Buhr.
