Of the ten Special Olympics athletes from this area, five made their first trip to Ames to compete. The TigerHawk Olympians brought home nine gold medals, six silver medals, and two bronze medals.

Leading the way were freshmen Dakota Cooley and seventh grader Kassidy Lenhart. Both athletes finished the weekend winning both of their events. Cooley cooled his opponents winning the 400m dash by over a quarter length of the track. In a tight race that came down to the wire Joseph Quinones came away with a second place finish in the 200m dash. The most improved athlete from the previous years was Junior Joey Giddens.

Giddens left Ames last year disappointed in not medaling in any of his events. With hard work and determination Giddens ran past his competition in the 400m dash on the last turn and never looked back to claim his gold medal. Andrew Schmitt, Sam Singewald, Jorden Hurlbut, and Jason Greco, all brought home some gold hardware.

There were three senior athletes, Jason Greco, Jorden Hurlbut, and John Gerdemann that were making their last trip to Ames representing North Fayette Valley in Special Olympics.
