Phyllis Ruroden

Phyllis Marian Ruroden, 86, of West Union, Iowa died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, Iowa.

Phyllis Marian was born on July 24, 1930 to Elmer and Gladys (Burg) Pinney in Elgin, Iowa.

She graduated from Elgin High School and earned her teaching certificate from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa.

Phyllis was united in marriage with Dale Ruroden on July 20, 1951.

She was a lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and belonged to the local quilting group.

After retirement she enjoyed volunteer work, reading to the children at West Union Elementary School.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Lana (Jim Szabo) Mantor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Terry (Deb) Ruroden of Waterloo, Iowa, Randy (Mary) Ruroden of West Union, Iowa, Robin (Steve) Robinson of Hawkeye, Iowa and Tim (Becky) Rurdoden of Cresco, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Karol) Pinney of Anamosa, Iowa; a sister, Cheryl (Chuck) Clemenson of Raymond, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Delores Pinney of Tempe, Arizona and Avis Ruroden of West Union, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Ruroden on June 21, 2011; daughter, LeAnn Westendorf; parents, Elmer and Gladys Pinney; brother, Duane Pinney; and sister, Bonnie Miller.

Visitation was held Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 2-5 pm at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, Iowa with Rev. Don Best as the Officiant.

Burial will be at West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa at a later date.
