Sara Dora Brause, 79, of West Union, Iowa died Monday, March 6, 2017 at Gunderson Palmer Lutheran Hospital, West Union, Iowa.

Sara Dora was born on March 23, 1937 to Henry and LeVora (Baumgartner) Larson in Wadena, Iowa. 

She was baptized and confirmed at Illyria Community Church, Elgin, Iowa. 

Sara graduated from Wadena High School in 1954.

Sara was united in marriage with Harry Richard Brause on December 12, 1958 at Elgin Lutheran Church, Elgin, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.  

She worked as a bookkeeper for Baumler Implement and Baumler Builders, Fayette Co. Union, Fayette County Courthouse, Trustworthy and Garvin Hardware and North Middle School. Sara retired three years ago from Norby’s Farm and Fleet after working there for the last 23 years. She also worked painting, wallpapering and refinishing furniture for people in the area. 

Sara was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa and served on the Church Council and was the secretary. 

She enjoyed watching the birds, gardening, fishing, having breakfast in Goeken Park and Duttons Cave Park, going out to eat and spending time with her pets, friends and family.

Sara is survived by her three children, Duane (Mary) Brause of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Bill (Sally) Brause of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Ann Brause of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren, Michaela, Kate, Amanda and Amy Brause; her cat, Lucy; and one sister, Cora Evelyn Orton of Dubuque, Iowa.

Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Brause; parents, Henry and LeVora Larson; and one brother in infancy, LeRoy.

Visitation was held Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa. There was also a one hour visitation before services on Friday.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa with Pastor Rusty Phillips as the Officiant.

Burial followed at West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa helped the family with arrangements.     11u11
