Miss Clermont to be crowned May 15

 

 

Four Clermont teenagers are competing for the chance to be crowned Miss Clermont 2017.

Kariann Elsbernd, Elizabeth Goddard, Kelsey Guyer, and Hope Wander all seek to be named Miss Clerment, who will be crowned on Monday, May 15, at Heritage Farm Park. The event is sponsored by the Clermont Community Club. 

The winner will represent Clermont at area events throughout the year, as well as in the 2017 Fayette County Fair Queen competition on Tuesday, July 25. 

Kariann Elsbernd, 17, is the daughter of Konnie and Tim Olson and Mike Elsbernd. She has two siblings, Kenzie and Derek.

At North Fayette Valley High School, Kariann participates on the varsity golf team, having gone to State in 2016, and sings in the chorus, including many solo ensemble contests. She is a member of FFA, for which she will serve as chapter secretary for the 2017-18 school year. She qualified for State FFA for the ETA Contest and was involved in the State FFA Chorus.

Outside of school, Kariann is active in Stavanger LYO at her church, works at Brick City Bar and Grill, mows lawns and babysits.

Fishing, working on the farm, kayaking, golfing and helping her family are all activities Kariann enjoys in her spare time.

After graduation, she plans to attend college at either Hawkeye Tech or UNI to study ag business.

Elizabeth Goddard, the 17-year-old daughter of Dennis and Joan Goddard, has one sibling, Mattison, 9. She enjoys being the manager of the North Fayette Valley volleyball and girls’ golf teams. Elizabeth also participates in Spanish Club at school and was a member of band her freshman year.

When she’s not in school she plays the piano for her church choir; helps with community events, including being an elf at the annual Santa Store and assisting at the Halloween Bash; and she competed in the American Legion Oratorical Contest in 2014 and 2015. She will attend the Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State in June, as well as travel to Germany.

In her free time, Elizabeth likes to read, play the piano, bake and create recipes, and loves to ride her bike.

She plans to attend college after she graduates, pursuing a degree in some aspect of banking.

Kelsey Guyer, 18, is the daughter of Jeremy and Laurie Guyer. She has a sister, Katlyn.

Kelsey keeps busy at North Fayette Valley High School, having been a football cheerleader for four years and in FFA, Business Club, and on Student Council for three years each. She has served as the Business Club vice president.

When she is not in school, Kelsey works at TJ’s Pizza, babysits, participates in church activities, and has been the community’s Easter Bunny and an elf at the Santa Store. She was previously in 4-H, as well.

Her hobbies include working, cheerleading, 4-wheeling, kayaking, enjoying the outdoors with her dog and time with her family.

After graduation, Kelsey plans to study interior design at Iowa State University.

Hope Wander is the daughter of Kyle and Kathy Wander. She is 17 and has five siblings, Brendan, Danny, Johnny, Nick and Steve.

At North Fayette Valley High School, Hope participates in chorus and band, including many honor choirs/bands and pep band, basketball, cheerleading, speech, and color guard. She is a member of Student Council, Executive Student Council, Mental Health Awareness Club, SODA (Students Okay without Drugs and Alcohol), and Art Club.

Outside of school Hope has served as president of Luther League, sings in her church choir, volunteers at Beulahland Christian Camp in the summer, and was previously a Church Council youth representative. She is a previous Legion Auxiliary Girls State representative, was a Gold Award recipient in Girl Scouts, volunteers her time to help with Boy Scout Troop 53, and babysits.

In her leisure time, Hope enjoys singing, art, writing and cooking.

Following graduation, she plans to continue her education at Northeast Iowa Community College in the cosmetology program and then transfer to the University of Iowa for a double major in music psychology.
