Area 4th of July celebrations

 

 

 

 

Area Fourth of July celebrations promise a variety of activities and entertainment in addition to the usual oohs and aahs of a traditional fireworks show. Following are some area plans for the Fourth of July 2017:

 

Clermont – A holiday fireworks show for the Valley community is set for Sunday, July 2, at dusk. The fireworks will take place over the campground lake at Skip-A-Way Resort in Clermont.

 

Festina – The Firecracker 5K, sponsored by the Festina Improvement Association, will start at Neal’s Auto

Body in Festina on July 4. Race time is 9 a.m., with prizes awarded to the top male and female finishers and to children 12 and under. Festina’s annual Fourth of July parade will begin at 11 a.m.

 

Spillville – Celebrate Independence Day starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, in Spillville at Riverside Park and The Inwood. Admission to the park is $3 per person and $5 per car. Wristbands and car passes for admission may be bought ahead of time at Main Street Mini-Mart or Citizens Savings Bank in Spillville. Games for all ages, music, and concessions will be available in the afternoon. The fireworks show will start at 9:30 p.m.

 

West Union – On Tuesday, July 4, activities kick off with a carnival at the West Union Aquatic Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The West Union Chamber — A Main Street Community will have games and inflatables for the kids to enjoy at the Recreation Complex at 4 p.m. Food will be available throughout the afternoon, as well as music from Aaron Smith of Sumner at 5 p.m. Miss West Union will be crowned at 7 p.m., with the fireworks display scheduled for 9:30 p.m. The rain date for fireworks is Saturday, July 8.
