Canadian Pacific Railroad, a rail company based out of Calgary, Canada, reported a derailment of 13 cars Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, near Calmar.

The span of cars began along 175th Street, also known as the Golf Course Road. The accident forced the road to remain closed for the rest of the day while the train cars were returned to  the tracks and track repairs were made.

Along with 175th Street, 248th Avenue and 253rd Avenue in Calmar were also closed throughout the remainder of the day.

The cars involved in the derailment included a pair of locomotives, as well as 11 cars that were hauling corn. Canadian Pacific Railroad also reported that all of the cars remained upright.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and Winneshiek County Emergency Management responded to the scene.
