David Lee Gage, 41, of West Des Moines passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, in Des Moines. 

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.

  Known to friends and family as “Gage,” he was born Jan. 17, 1976, in Waterloo. 

He received his education from North Fayette High School in West Union. He loved playing football in high school and was part of the 1992 state championship team. 

Gage enjoyed working as assistant manager at Ace Hardware, helping customers for many years. 

He loved sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Gage was a kind, gentle and caring man who could not turn away a stray animal. He loved music and spending time with his wife and friends. Gage loved making people laugh and believed his sense of humor was a gift from God.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie (Wood) Gage of West Des Moines; his father and mother, Robert and Mardene Gage of Solon; his sister Marcy (Brad) Wymer of Iowa City; his nephew Jordan Wymer of Fayette; his sister Stacy (Bill) Peterson of Dubuque; his sister Kristi (Pete) Montgomery of Iowa Falls; his niece Alyssa (Eric) Miller of Des Moines; his father- and mother-in-law, Neal and Kathy Wood of Traer; his brother-in-law, Matthew Wood of Traer; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gage was preceded in death by his sister Amy Manross; his nephew Tanner Wymer; his maternal grandparents, Deane and Mary Davis; and his paternal grandparents, Levi and Alberta Gage.     38u38
