Eugene F. Boie, 84, of West Union and formerly of Hawkeye, died Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at Stoney Brook Village in West Union.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Ron Roberts officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery. A visitation will precede the service at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye is assisting Eugene’s family.

Eugene Fredrick, son of Joseph and Lillie (Fritz) Boie, was born September 15, 1935, at home, rural Hawkeye. He was baptized October 13, 1935, at St. Peter Lutheran Church-Richfield, rural Hawkeye, and confirmed April 2, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. Eugene graduated from Hawkeye High School in 1955 and would later serve in the United States Army from June 9, 1958, before being honorably discharged on June 8, 1960. Eugene was a long time farmer in the Hawkeye area. In addition to his farming, he worked at the Hawkeye Hatchery and Boie Electric. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, served as a volunteer fireman for the Hawkeye Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the City Park Board. Eugene enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and attending farm shows.

Eugene is survived by his two nieces, Edythe (Jim) Daniels of West Union, Betty Ott of Fayette, and niece-in-law, Bev Weidemann of Sumner; nephew, Daryl (Sanda) Weidemann of Hawkeye; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Weidemann; two nephews, Jim and Dale Weidemann; and one niece, Shirley Koch.
