Sharon (Alcorn) Schnepf

 

Sharon (Alcorn) Schnepf went to her heavenly reward on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. She died peacefully in her sleep. Committal service of burial will be held October 18, 11 a.m. at the West Union Cemetery. 

Sharon was born January 9, 1950, in West Union, IA. She grew upon a dairy farm. After her chores were completed, she delighted in riding horses. In 1968, she graduated from North Fayette Community High School in West Union.

Sharon entered Iowa State University majoring in physics and graduating in 1972. Her first teaching job was in Anamosa, IA. After one year, she relocated to Carroll, IA, teaching science in the high school.

In 1976, she met her future husband, Ted Schnepf, and they were married July 30, 1977 in West Union. She followed Ted to the Chicago area, where he worked for the railroad. Sharon taught physics and astronomy at Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL. 34 years. She was twice honored as an “Outstanding Teacher”. She was a very understanding and caring teacher. She retired in 2011.

Sharon was active in her Presbyterian Church, teaching both Sunday school and vacation bible school. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, growing flowers, reading, her Bible study, music and interacting with her students. Sharon will be remembered for her kind heart and generous spirit.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Ruth (Saltsgiver) and LeRoy Alcorn, brother Lyle and sisters Linda and Arlene.

Sharon is survived by her husband Ted, one sister Nancy Grimes and two brothers in laws Jim Grimes and Ron Koester, and many nieces and nephews.
