Michael Vagts

 

Michael Robert Vagts, 54, of Eldorado, Iowa, died Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union, Iowa.  Mike was born September 27, 1965 to Kenneth and Evelyn (McIntyre) Vagts in West Union, Iowa. He was baptized on October 1, 1965 and confirmed on April 26, 1981, both at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa. Mike graduated from North Fayette Community School and attended DeVries University for four years. After graduating from college, Mike returned home to farm.

 

Mike was united in marriage with Holli Woltzen, two children were born to this union, Emma and Rylee. They later divorced.  Over the years, Mike did farm work for many others. For the last twelve years, he worked as an Agronomist for Viafield. Mike raised and sold steers for many years. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed four-wheeling, playing cards, dancing, water sports on the Mississippi, being involved in tractor parades and doing Rollin’ Rock DJ with his brother Rick.

 

Mike is survived by his children, Emma Vagts and Rylee Vagts both of Eldorado, Iowa; step-daughter, Shara Ungs of Nashua, Iowa; his parents, Evelyn and Kenneth Vagts; siblings Cindy Linderbaum of Ossian, Iowa, Randi (Sara) Vagts of Eldorado, Iowa, Jody (Terry) Kerns of Edgewood, Iowa, Rick Vagts of Eldorado, Iowa, Terry (Penny Herges) Vagts of Eldorado, Iowa and Chris (Tami) Vagts of Eldorado, Iowa; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Mabel Vagts and Milton and Ethel McIntyre; special friend, Marcia Wilhelmi; and two aunts, Elaine McIntyre and Mary Pape.

 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, from 4-7pm at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, Iowa, and also one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 11am at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, Iowa. The Rev. Ginny Olson will officiate.

 

Burial will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Eldorado, Iowa.

 

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
