Kathy Lynn Miller, 70, of Waterloo (formerly of West Union, Iowa), died on Wednesday, October 162019 at Mercy One Hospital and Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.  Kathy, the daughter of Daniel and Rosemary (Leitch) Hanson, was born on April 12, 1949 at the West Union Hospital.  She was baptized and confirmed at the West Union Methodist Church.  She graduated from North High in West Union, Iowa in 1968. 

 Kathy was united in marriage to Ronald Miller in 1968.  They were later divorced.  Their son Shane was born on September 24, 1968 and he passed away April 28, 1993.  Kathy was a military wife and the family was stationed in Maryland, Georgia, Chicago and Germany.

She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake (her specialties were cookies and penuche) and she generously shared her treasures with others.  She was employed in the bakery at the Prairie View Care Facility when she lived in West Union.  She was a big fan of Kenny Roger’s music, loved to watch CSI and other detective shows, was an avid runner in earlier years, enjoyed sunbathing, and loved spending time with her beloved pets, faithful friends and family. 

Kathy will be missed by her siblings:  Olivia (Duane) Pleggenkuhle of Hawkeye, Iowa; Daniel (Jan) Hanson of Cedar Falls, Iowa;  Mark (Judy) of West Union, Iowa and Brent Hanson of West Union, Iowa; her best friend Tim Taylor of Waterloo, Iowa; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; Aunt Isabell Wegner of Des Moines, Iowa and many cousins.  

She was preceded in death by her son Shane Miller and her parents, Daniel and Rosemary Hanson.

Kathy’s celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in West Union, Iowa.  Rev. Chris Ebbers will be the officiant.  The family invites you to join them an hour before the service, for the celebration and at the fellowship lunch following the service - at the church. 

 Burial will be at the West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa – after the fellowship lunch.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
