Craig Mundt

Craig Henry Mundt, age 70 of Ossian, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at his home. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. and 1 hour before the service on Saturday.

Craig was born September 27, 1949, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Leslie and Leora (Bloxham) Mundt. Craig graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1967. He then attended NIACC in Mason City, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Linda Martie on December 7, 1973 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa.

Craig and Linda farmed with his parents on the family farm for 22 years at which time he went on to work at Camcar - Stanley Black and Decker for another 22 years. Craig then became ill with esophageal cancer, which he has battled for the last 4 1/2 years.

Craig and Linda raised their two children, Jeromy and Erica, on the family farm. He always found time for a little basketball or a game of catch before, during, or after chores. Craig was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Craig loved to sing and was a member of the church choir and the Ossian Community Singers. Craig and Linda also loved to dance and anytime there was music you could find them on the dance floor.

Anyone who knew Craig, knew he loved his sports. He played baseball and softball, starting when he was a young lad. Craig played basketball at South Winneshiek and held the career scoring record for many years. He loved his Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes!

Nothing meant more to him than his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren! He was never so proud as when he walked his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day and when he had the honor of serving as Best-Man at his son’s wedding.

Craig is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Jeromy (Kellie) Mundt of Hayden, ID; his daughter, Erica (Paul) Davis of Ossian; his grandchildren: Kevin, Ashley, & Luke Davis and Chanda (Jeff) Walther; his great-grandchildren: Kellan, Crew, & Boston Walther; his brother, Don Mundt of Danbury, CT; his sisters-in-law: Dorothy Reed, Marlene Mengelsen, and Fritzie Martie; and many nieces and nephews.
