Margaret Elaine Halverson was born July 1, 1932, on the family farm in rural Gays Mills, WI, the youngest daughter of Martin and Elsie (Helgeson) Iverson. She was baptized July 31, 1932, confirmed May 19, 1946, at Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church and graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1950. On April 8, 1952, she married Harold Paul Halverson at Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church, which was also Harold’s 20th birthday. Harold was a cheesemaker so they moved around to several different towns including German Valley, IL, and Wadena, IA, before settling in Waukon, IA, in 1976. Margaret was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Waukon Golf and Country Club. Margaret enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cross making, reading, and her favorite color was blue. She also liked putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, board games, and bingo. She was an avid Green Bay Packers/Iowa Hawkeye fan and in her younger years she loved to bowl and golf. Most of all Margaret loved being with her family, traveling, and wintering in Arizona; she enjoyed her gatherings in Galena, IL, with her daughters, sisters, and nieces. Some of her favorite things were Eggs Benedict with extra hollandaise sauce, Hardees coffee with a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, and extra napkins “of course”.

Survivors include her children: Greg Halverson of Ogden, UT, Cindy (Scott) Butikofer of Cresco, IA, Margie (Leo Heaton) Sommers of Prophetstown, IL, Mary Jo (Russ) Meyer of Waukon, and Mark (Robin) Halverson of Frisco, TX; nine grandchildren: Ashley, Bryan, and Matthew Halverson, Tina Brown, Aaron (Cindy) Butikofer, Bailey (Tharin) Benson, Nathan Meyer, and Eric “Ryker” and Atlee Laine Halverson; eight great-grandchildren: Emmalee (Jordan) Thompson, Lawson and Aiden Brown, Cole, Kyra, and Carver Butikofer, and Henley and Soren Elaine Benson; one great-great-grandchild Cayson Thompson; two sisters-in-law: Helen Beatty of Viroqua, WI, and Mary Jane Yearous of Rome, GA; one brother-in-law Rollie (Mayda) Halverson of Cottage Grove, WI, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.     She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold in 2009; a son Eric Albert Halverson, who died in 1987; an infant son Wayne Martin Halverson, who died in 1955; and one infant brother.
