Travis Cooley, 41, of Hawkeye, Iowa,  died Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital, West Union, Iowa.  He was born March 20, 1978 to Ronald and Cheri (Holtberg) Cooley in West Union, Iowa. Travis was baptized at Zion Lutheran in West Union, Iowa and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Hawkeye, Iowa. He graduated from North Fayette High School in 1996 and attended NICC in Calmar for Welding and Hawkeye Community College for Automotive Technology.

Travis was united in marriage with Jacinda Lea Trafelet on June 10, 2000 at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Dakota and Chase. Travis was a member of the Hawkeye Fire Department and Hawkeye Boy Scouts for many years.  He loved spending time with his boys, whether it was cheering them on while they played football or Chase wrestling, or just being home watching football and NASCAR on TV. He was a social butterfly with a compassionate heart, would do anything for his family. From an early age, Travis started collecting hats, he had 100’s in his collection. He also enjoyed Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, pizza, a good burger, brats and anything with Oreos.

Throughout the years, Travis worked at Rupp, FRC Racing Products, Blessing Industries, John Falb Co. Dealership, Easton’s Water Conditioning, Hanson Tire, Atwood, Ashley Industrial Molding, Arts Way, Deco and Cam Car.

He loved watching and supporting both his boys play football and Chase wrestle. Travis even helped coach baseball at the REC Center with his sons. Spending time with his wife was a great joy, on February 9, 2020 they celebrated twenty-five years together since their first date. He also enjoyed spending time with his boys, either watching football or NASCAR on TV at home, being at sporting event cheering them on, working on race cars and throwing the ball around in the backyard. Travis raced at Echo Valley Speedway and at Fayette County Speedway. He loved racing and had fun doing it, he wasn’t there to win.

  Travis is survived by his loving wife of almost twenty-years, Jacinda Cooley of Hawkeye, Iowa; two sons, Dakota and Chase Cooley of Hawkeye, Iowa; parents Cheri Miller (Steve Ungerer) of Hawkeye, Iowa and Ron Cooley of Chatfield, Minnesota; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cathy (Paul) Trafelet of Hawkeye, Iowa; sisters, Traci Cooley of Dubuque, Iowa and Tammy (Doug) Bushman of Kearney, Missouri; one brother, Troy (Nikki) Cooley of Liberty, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Jeremy (Wendy) Trafelet of Sheridan, Wyoming, Joshua Trafelet of Vine Grove, Kentucky and Ty Trafelet of Sumner, Iowa; and nieces and nephews, Hayley Bushman, Savannah Bushman, Colton Bushman, Tepary Cooley, Omri Cooley, Zachary Trafelet, Isabella Trafelet, Macey Shelton, Aiden Pagel, Gunner Betthauser, Asher Trafelet and Blayke Trafelet.

Visitation was  held from 4-7 pm with a 3:30 pm Rosary and a 7:00 pm Scripture Service on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Union, Iowa. There was a one hour visitation before mass at the church on Tuesday.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, Iowa with Rev. Donald Komboh as the Celebrant.

Burial followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery in West Union, Iowa.
