Marie Ann Schneider, 68, of West Union, Iowa died Saturday, July 1, 2020 at her home in West Union, Iowa with her family by her side. Marie was born on December 18, 1951 to Warren and LaDonna (Heineman) Sauerbrei in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from North High School in 1971.

     Marie was united in marriage with Lawrence Schneider on September 23, 1972 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa. Throughout the years, Marie did childcare and volunteered in the community, including Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, sewing and collecting angels. Marie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and WELCA. Marie’s volunteer work started at a young age. She volunteered as a candy striper at the local hospital. After her marriage she became very involved with Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, especially with supplying handmade quilts to those in need overseas. In addition to her church, Marie volunteered at The Good Samaritan Society in West Union. She would visit the home every Wednesday to play dominoes with the residents and one Monday a month to play Bingo and serve coffee. In 2014, the Good Samaritan Society’s staff recognized her with the Volunteer of the Year Award. Marie also encouraged others to volunteer, saying, “Come along and do it! It is worth it, absolutely.”

    Surviving Marie are her children, Matthew (Amy) Schneider of Waverly, Iowa, Betty (Landen) Ploeger of Webster City, Iowa, Lorena (Larry) Wilson of Rinard, Iowa, Lorann Stout of Cedar Rapids, and Michael Schneider of Livermore, Iowa; grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Shelbey, Jacqueline, Benjamin, Blakely and Brenden; two great-grandchildren, Adam and Rylie; her father, Warren Sauerbrei; siblings, Marvin (Mavis) Sauerbrei, Marge (Nick) McIntyre of Eldorado, Iowa, Mark (Carol) Sauerbrei, Marcia (Kevin) Curtis of Lebanon, Missouri and Marty (Bev) Sauerbrei of Sedalia, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

     Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence on December 7, 2019; and her mother, LaDonna Sauerbrei.

 

Visitation was held from 9-11 am on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home, West Union, Iowa with a Graveside Service at 11:15 am on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at West Union Cemetery, West Union. A Celebration of Life followed at the West Union Event Center, West Union on Saturday.
