Earl West

Earl Gene West, 74, of Elgin, Iowa died Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  He was born July 17, 1946 to Earl and Gladys (Gregerson) at the Fred Wagner Farm near Elkader, Iowa. Earl Gene graduated from Starmont High School in 1964. He joined and proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1967. Earl Gene continued his education at Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, studying Environmental Health.

For a short time, Earl Gene was a Sanitarian for Benton County and then became a Meat Inspector for the State of Iowa from 1971 until he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, flowers, antiques and visiting casinos in several areas. Earl Gene was known to feed all the critters around his house. He was a member of the Elgin American Legion.

Surviving Earl Gene are his siblings, Gary (Jane) West of Independence, Iowa, Sharon Larson of Elgin, Iowa and Shirley (George) Tupy of Ft. Atkinson, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Scherry(Jim) Stuart of Elgin, Iowa, Tami (Chris) Clarke of Springville, Iowa, Tara (John) Breon of Jefferson, Iowa, Karen Davis of Great Bend, Kansas, David West of Independence, Iowa, Kyle West of West Union, Iowa, Shelley Harbaugh of Cascade, Iowa, Sabrina Hangartner of Postville, Iowa and Sonya Anderson of Luana, Iowa; and several great nieces and great nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.

Earl Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gladys West; brother, Lyle West; nephew, Kevin West; and several aunts and uncles.

There will be a Private Family Service.
