Luella “Tudy” Louise Meyer, 93, of rural Fort Atkinson, Iowa died Saturday, August 22, 2020 in Ossian, Iowa. Tudy was born on January 29, 1927 in Eldorado, Iowa to Fritz and Ella (Neumann) Lauer. She was baptized on February 20, 1927 and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Tudy attended Eldorado School through the eighth grade and graduated from West Union High School in 1944. She worked in Oelwein making Sun Protectors for Life Boats during World War II. Later she worked in West Union as a Telephone Operator. 

 

 Tudy was united in marriage with George Meyer on January 12, 1947 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. They celebrated their 62ndWedding Anniversary in 2009. Together they farmed North of Eldorado, just into Winneshiek County their entire married life. She farmed side by side with George, helping her husband milk cows and with field work, while maintaining a big garden and canning the produce.

 

They enjoyed vacationing all over the world. She enjoyed Square Dancing and belonged to the West Union Square Dance Club for thirty years, also ballroom dancing. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening and taking many flowers, arrangements and produce to the fairs. With all her fair ribbons, Tudy made a large quilt which hung in her room at the nursing home. Tudy was very active with church as well as a 4-H leader. She especially enjoyed being with her family and friends. Tudy entered the nursing home in February 2019, where the family met so many nice families as well as staff.

 

Tudy is survived by three daughters, Diane Pierson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wanda (Dennis) Wenthe of Fennimore, Wisconsin and Luann (Jim) Barness of Ossian, Iowa; grandchildren, Steve (Jenny) Fisher, Angie (Mike) Shurtz, Matt (Jill) Wenthe, Dawn (David Burg) Wenthe, Scott (Dr. Dan Berger) Wenthe, Shelly (Chris Baacke) Wenthe, Joy (Nate) Dailey, Allison (Matt) Ausmus, Jason (Amy) Barness, Bryan (Allison) Barness and Dan (Stephanie) Barness; great-grandchildren, Dalton Shurtz, Nathan Fisher, Aliyha Fisha, Ella Fisher, Davis Wenthe, Quinn Wenthe, Bryce Dailey, Isaiah Barness, Jackson Barness, Jameson Barness, Noah Barness and Zoey Barness; one brother-in-law, Richard (Ramona) Meyer of West Union, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Tudy in death was her husband, George Meyer; one son, Donald Meyer at birth; grandson, Paul Wenthe; great-granddaughter, Courtney Fisher; her parents, Fritz and Ella Lauer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Hannah Meyer; sons-in-law, Larry Coots, Curt Fisher and Bob Pierson; brother, Oliver Lauer; sisters, Helen Grimes and Iva Sampson; brothers-in-law, Haldain Grimes and Milferd Sampson; and one sister-in-law, Avis (Leo) Buchtela.

 

Grandma Tudy was a special lady, friend to all and will be missed by everyone.

 

There will be a Public Visitation form 4-7 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian, Iowa.

 

There will be a Private Family Service and Burial.
