John Juen

John Joseph William Juen, 60, of Elgin, Iowa died Sunday, October 18, 2020, due to heart complications, surrounded by family. John was born November 5, 1959 in Decorah, Iowa, the beloved son of William and Helen (Gerleman) Juen.

John worked as a Body Man, repairing the exterior of vehicles and aligning frames. He started at Rapids Chevrolet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Falb Motor Co. in Elgin, Iowa and Wilbur Ford, West Union, Iowa.

He loved walking his faithful companion, Chocolate Lab, Lily. John enjoyed doing yardwork and taking care of his strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes and succulents. In other words, John had a real green thumb. He created stained glass artwork, original oil and watercolor paintings of nature. His most recent creation was taking a simple pallet and etching names, using only a utility knife and screwdriver, for his niece’s wedding. The pallet looked like it had been done with a machine, due to the meticulous perfection.

His real talent was giving the ultimate gifts, which would leave the recipient in awe of his creativity and thoughtfulness. John loved every and all family gatherings. He was always eager to make a variety of food for every occasion. John was known as the “fun” uncle and had a knack of making everyone laugh and smile. He was extremely humble and generous with his time. He will be remembered for his hardy laugh and quick wit.

John leaves behind his two sisters, Molly (Dennis) Dolezal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Ann (Mike) Buddenberg of Castalia, Iowa; three nephews, Matthew Dolezal (fiance’ Samantha), Justin (Tara) Dolezal, Dereck (Carrie) Buddenberg; one niece, Lindsey (Jared) Aschbrenner; great nieces and nephew, Blair Buddenberg, Luke Dolezal, Bristol Buddenberg and Vivian Dolezal.

Preceding John in death were his parents, William “Bill” and Helen Juen; maternal grandparents, Albert and Catherine Gerleman; fraternal grandparents, Dr. Joseph and Lila Juen; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

John will forever be loved and missed.

There will be a private family funeral.
