William Larick

William Larick

William (Bill) Alfred Larick was born on September 26th, 1953 in West Union, Iowa to Gertrude (Nolan) and Kenneth Larick.  He passed November 30, 2020 unexpectedly in Anchorage, Alaska surrounded by his family.  Bill proudly attended the University of Iowa (Go Hawkeyes!) studying business administration.  He was introduced to Alaska by his uncles during his junior year of college and permanently moved there after graduation.

He quickly obtained his real estate license and began working for an appraiser.  One evening he attended an office party where he met the love of his life, Laurie Downing.  They wed the following year in Wasilla, Alaska.  Together they had a happy and loving marriage for over 41 years.  They have owned many successful businesses spanning from real estate appraising, a car dealership, the Tradewinds in Spenard, and farming in northeast Iowa.  However, his favorite role was being a father to his two girls, Chelsea and Carrie.  Never a man of many words but he was always very proud of them and showed his love through both teasing and sarcasm.

His laugh was infectious and his advice was always to do what makes you happy.  He enjoyed watching The University of Iowa play football, especially when they beat Minnesota.  Equal glee happened when the Packers would beat the Vikings.  He loved coaching his girls in softball, arguing politics, gambling (or as he called it “supporting the local economy”) and showing up in new sports cars (or tractors) without discussing it with his wife first.

Although he left us too soon, he had a very full and happy life and is deeply missed.  He is preceded in death by his mother and father, many aunts and uncles and his father in law.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie, daughters Chelsea and Carrie, brother Robert (Sheila), sister Paula and many  friends, colleagues, and, of course, The Boys.  He was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews as well.

A gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Bill.  Until then, start your day with dessert, raise your glass, and always cheer for the Hawkeyes.
