Alice Mae Anderson, age 100, formerly of Ridgeway, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Alice was born on the family farm near Ridgeway, Iowa to Herbert and Lena Anderson on October 17, 1920.  She was baptized at the Orleans Lutheran Church in Winneshiek Country where she was a life –long member.  She attended school in the Ridgeway and Cresco area.  Alice received her teaching degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa and went on to get her master’s degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa

Alice began her teaching career in a one-room school house in rural Iowa and then continued her career in the Ridgeway and West Union School Districts. She moved to the Des Moines area in 1963 where she became an accomplished school counselor at Lincoln High School for 23 years, retiring in 1986.

Alice enjoyed traveling.  She spent many summers in The Hamptons in New York and the winters skiing in Colorado and vacationing in Arizona.  Alice was an excellent cook and loved entertaining family and friends.  But most importantly, she was an avid Iowa State fan and had enlightening conversations about the football and basketball players with family and friends.

Alice is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews who adored her along with her special friends in her apartment building.  She was our rock when life got difficult.  She always had helpful and honest advice to give. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Gerald and Raymond Anderson and two sisters; Irene Hove and Emma Anderson.

Memorial services will be held at the Orleans Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway, with burial in the church cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
