Lorna Landas

Lorna Ann Landas, 87, of Fayette, Iowa died Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Lorna was born November 20, 1934 to Harold and Thelma (Carmichael) Bergan in Volga, Iowa.

On May 12, 1951, Lorna was united in marriage with Howard Landas at St Francis of Assisi in Fayette la. Six children were born to this union. When her children attended Holy Name School Lorna drove the Catholic school bus. Throughout the years Lorna worked as a C.N.A. and a Med Aide at Prairie View Care Center in Fayette, Iowa. She was employed there for 35 years and retired twice! She was a very devoted member of Catholic Daughters of America, the Holy Name Rosary Society, and the Historical Society. Lorna loved nothing more than to be busy working at church for a lunch or other gatherings .She enjoyed being active at the Lima church. Lorna was a longtime member of The Union Study Club with her neighborhood ladies. Lorna loved to cook and bake. Her potato salad was famous to all who were lucky enough to enjoy it, as was her pecan pie and chocolate chip cookies. She was very particular about things being clean and being done the Right Way! Its been said you could eat off of her basement floor. Lorna was a second mother to many as she cared for and babysat countless relatives, friends and neighbors’ children over the years. She was a wonderful seamstress and sewed wedding and bridesmaid’s gowns, tap dancing and acrobats costumes for many. She went so far as to finish home ec projects for her girls to make sure they were done right. She once made matching outfits for all the girls to attend the Fayette County Fair. Most likely so that she didn’t lose anyone.

Lorna’s sisters were a very important part of her daily life as you could catch her on the phone with one of them often. If anyone wanted to learn to twirl a baton she would show you how, as she did for her granddaughters.
