Gertrude (Gert) Louise Kugel Lee was born September 11, 1928 to William and Amelia (Hammon) Kugel on the family farm in Grand Meadow Township near Luana, Iowa.  

Gert was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville.  She attended Baily Country School and graduated from Postville High School in 1947.  After graduation she worked as a nurse’s aide at Postville Hospital and then became the office secretary of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  

On August 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to Keith Lee at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville.  Keith and Gert farmed for 10 years near Decorah and 37 years near Monona.  They raised purebred hogs, Airedale dogs, Standardbred horses, and Thoroughbred horses.   In 1989 Keith and Gert started a new business selling maintenance products.  In 2001 they bought a home in Wadena.

Dora Lee Albertson, 89, of Elgin, Iowa passed away on Monday, August 24. 2020 at Evan’s Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa. Dora Lee was born April 25, 1931 in Elgin, Iowa to Edward and Dorothy (Ash) Medberry. She went to school in Elgin and graduated in 1948.

 

Dora Lee was married to Gordon Landswerk in 1950. To this union four children were born. In 1974 Dora Lee was united in marriage with Cliff Albertson. They lived in Elgin and she worked as a rural route driver for the United States Post Office there for several years and then drove school bus. She was also the Mayor of Elgin. Dora Lee was a great cook, enjoyed gardening, had lots of friends and loved her life and lived it the way she wanted.

 

Surviving Dora Lee are her children, Karen (Mike) Webster, Gary (Anne) Landswerk, Jane (Joe) Truka and Joan (Lyle) Landswerk; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a sister, Reve (Bruce).

Joan Ricki Williams, age 71, of West Frankfort died suddenly Monday at her residence.

Ms. Williams, a longtime West Frankfort resident, was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Director, and a founding member of Community Media Group, Inc. and affiliated companies including Community Magazine Group, Champaign Multi Media Group and Timmus Company.

She is survived by her daughter Cathy and husband Tom Clansen and grandsons, Bradley and Riley Clansen of Santa Ana, California; her grandson Wesley Romack of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; niece Roxanne Davis of Bloomington, IL and nephew Chris Williams of Lake of Egypt.  She is also survived by her cousins, Bill (Shirley) Griggs, Phyllis Crader, Martha (Mark) Speers and Lisa Mercer.

Sandra (Sandy) Kay Burkhart, 82, completed her journey to God on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.; following a brief illness.

 

Sandy is survived by her high school sweetheart, Kenneth of 63 years. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, IA on May 10, 1957.

 

Sandy is lovingly remembered by her son, Alan (Laurie) Burkhart, Hawkeye, and daughter, Jan (Jim) Hauer, Solon. Grandchildren Abby (Zach) Osborn, Ben Burkhart, Trent Blessing and Trevor (Maggie) Blessing, step-grandchildren John, Sydney and Saige Hauer and great-grandchildren Brooks Blessing and Baby Boy Osborn coming in November, and family dog Charlee.

Mary Catharine Belschner Fritz was born on May 27, 1931 to Gustave Louis and Lola Dee (Wilbur) Belschner.  She had one older sister, Marjorie.  She was raised on the family farm southeast of Hawkeye, Iowa.  In school, she was a standout student (valedictorian), athlete (conference champion basketball team), and musician (vocalist).  Following graduating from Hawkeye High School she attended Iowa State University, majoring in Home Economics.  She was a member of the Old Gold Singers and was a sought-after vocalist.

Luella “Tudy” Louise Meyer, 93, of rural Fort Atkinson, Iowa died Saturday, August 22, 2020 in Ossian, Iowa. Tudy was born on January 29, 1927 in Eldorado, Iowa to Fritz and Ella (Neumann) Lauer. She was baptized on February 20, 1927 and confirmed on March 17, 1940 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Tudy attended Eldorado School through the eighth grade and graduated from West Union High School in 1944. She worked in Oelwein making Sun Protectors for Life Boats during World War II. Later she worked in West Union as a Telephone Operator.
