Wanda White

Wanda White

 

Wanda White, 73, of Palo, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 28, 2019, under hospice care at The Bird House in Iowa City, Iowa, following a ten-year battle with cancer. A Vigil Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will follow from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019, at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Private family entombment will take place at a later date at Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Abigail Whitford

 

Abigail Rose Whitford, 10, of Bellevue, NE, was pronounced dead on Thurs, August 22, 2019 of severe brain trauma after being struck by a car in a crosswalk. 

She attended Trumble Park Elementary in Papillon and loved reading, art and math. She delighted in simple moments, made friends easily and was becoming a mature young lady while being unapologetically herself. Her kindness and spark will live on because Abby donated her organs.

Abby was welcomed to her heavenly home by great-grandparents Harold "Jake" and Leola Baker; Mildred Reinig; Floyd and Faye Neal; Floyd, Jewel, and Clara Whitford; and great-uncles Bob Gaeta and Wendell Whitford.

Gary C. Beermann, 84, of Marcus, IA, went to be with his Savior on August 24, 2019.

The Funeral Service and luncheon for Gary will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus.  A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held the following day, Sunday, September 8, 2019, at noon at the West Union, Iowa, Fairgrounds.  A time for sharing memories will be provided in both services. Online condolences can be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Gary was born on April 27, 1935, the oldest son of Del and Edna (Halverson) Beermann, and spent his childhood in West Union, IA.   He graduated from West Union High School and continued at Iowa State in engineering.

Memorial Services for for LaVerne LeRoy Nims of Clermont, Iowa will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at the West Clermont Lutheran Church Fellowship room in Clermont, IA. LaVerne passed away on August 25, 2019.  

LaVerne was born on March 15, 1942 to Frank and Olga Nims.  He married Connie Schlee on December 6, 1975, and later divorced. Vern graduated from Valley High School in 1960. He was a very good athlete in his High School days. In 1958, his junior year, Vern was a member of the undefeated football team.

In 1964, Vern was drafted into the army.  He was stationed at Fort Leonard in Wood, Missouri. Vern was assigned to Company D 2D Battalion 2D Regiment and later served in the Vietnam War.

Following discharge, Vern went into farming with his parents and in later years with his brother. Vern loved to bowl on his league with his friends.  He enjoyed raising watermelon and sweet corn.

Micheal Lee Willie, age 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Cresco, Iowa on Saturday, August 31, 2019, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. 

Services will be at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fayette, Iowa on Wednesday, September 3, 2019 with visitation from 9:30 until service time. Burial will be in the Grandview cemetery in Fayette, Iowa.

Gary Langreck, age 55 of St. Lucas, IA passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at his home in St. Lucas from a heart condition. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic church in St. Lucas, IA.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church and 9:30 a.m. at the church Friday morning.

Joan Marie Lansing was born March 11, 1927, a daughter of the late Frank and Mayme (Britton) Peyer. Joan was baptized in her faith at Saint Francis De Sales Church in Ossian, Iowa. Living her entire life in Ossian, Joan graduated high school from De Sales. Following her schooling Joan worked at Wallmark Drug in Ossian.  She meet the love of her life (Charles Lansing) at the movietheater in Ossian, where they both worked part time, she selling concessions and he running the movie projector.  

Joan was married to Charles on April 2, 1945 at Saint Francis De Sales Church, by the late Rt. Rev. Msgr. M.J. Thiltgen. Mrs. Lansing was a member of the Saint Francis De Sales Parish, The Saint Francis De Sales Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters, the Ossian Crown Club, and a former member of the South Winneshiek Golf & Country Club.

     William Loren Egeland, 77, of Postville, Iowa died Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society, Postville, Iowa. William was born on September 1, 1941 to Jens and Margaret (Bevan) Egeland in Wallingford, Emmet County.  He was baptized on October 26, 1941 at Wallingford Lutheran Church. Bill graduated high school from Estherville in 1959 and attended two years of College in Estherville.

     Bill was united in marriage with Judy Zweibohmer on June 4, 1966 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. Together they farmed for four years in the Ossian area. He then starts working for Postville Community School as a maintenance man. Bill was employed there for thirty years until his retirement. He then went to work for Monona Wire for three years. Bill loved being with family and helping Judy in the garden. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels.

June Rose Capper, 88, of Lansing, Iowa formerly of Elgin, Iowa died Friday, August 16, 2019 at Thornton Manor, Lansing, Iowa. She was born June 1, 1931 to John and Julia (Braker) Grimm in Elgin, Iowa. She graduated from Elgin High School, Elgin, Iowa in 1948.

William “Bill” Albrecht, 70, of Maynard, Iowa died on Monday evening, August 19, 2019 at Mercy One – Oelwein.

The funeral service was held at 4 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maynard, with Pastor Dennis Frank officiating.

Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Military Graveside Service by the Maynard American Legion Lundbye-Carpenter Post #245 were held.

Interment was in the Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard, Iowa.

Memorial Fund has been established for the West Central School and the Maynard American Legion.
