Rodney Welsh, 74, of rural Lawler died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at his home following a lingering illness. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye is in charge of arrangements.

 Richard Donald “Dick” Erickson, 85, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

 Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, 2017, at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, with Pastor Gary Olson, New Aldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls, officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls.

 Dick was born April 18, 1931, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Agnes (Hanson) Erickson. On October 11, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carol J. Rogelstad in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carol preceded him in death on May 24, 2003.

 Dick graduated from West Union High School and served in the United States Marines. He was employed in delivery with Alstadt and Langlas Baking Company.

Catherine “Cathy” Terese Zbornik, 54, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday March 19, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City.  Iowa Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 7th at 12:00 noon at the Fort Atkinson Community Center, Fort Atkinson, Iowa.

Surviving is her husband, Kurt Neyens; her mother, Helen Zbornik of Fort Atkinson, Iowa; her siblings Susan Zbornik of Decorah, Iowa; Julie Zbornik (Wayne Lott) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; John (Carol) Zbornik of Menomonie, Wisconsin and Sarah Zbornik of Decorah, Iowa; her nieces and nephews Stephen James Zbornik, Hannah (Trent) Bildstein, Ben Zbornik, Sam Zbornik, Andrew Magner and Jake Magner. She was preceded in death by her father, Adrian Zbornik and a brother, Stephen Zbornik.

Cecil D. Stanbrough, 95, of Greene and formerly of Hawkeye, died Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

 

Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Oelwein on March 30, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dave Byrd officiating. Interment will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Hawkeye Cemetery with military rites conducted by Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner. There will be a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday. Lorraine R. Stempfle, 80, of Maynard, Iowa, died Thursday evening, March 16, 2017 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.

 

Mass of Christian Burial:  11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein with Rev. Paul C. McManus & Deacon Jim Patera officiating.

Visitation:  4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday and until 10:30 AM on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

Parish Scripture Service:  7:30 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.

Interment:  Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.

A Memorial Fund has been established.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22nd at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Velma Marie (Thomas) Cox, 99, of West Union, Iowa died on March 17, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society Home in West Union, Iowa.  

Velma Marie was born on Jan. 27, 1918 in Arlington, Iowa to James and Luseva (Voshell) Thomas. She lived with her Aunt, Edna Harriman, from the age of four until she was a grown up.

Velma had seven brothers, Howard, James, Arthur, Theodore, Orville, Milton “Woody” and Lyle and eight sisters, Ollie Westcott, Nellie Voshell, Dorothy Shippy Gage, Jennie Voshell, Lydia Roloff, Helen “Fern” Marquette, Hazel Marquette and Charlotte Chapman.

Velma was united in marriage to Philip M. Cox on Sept. 19, 1935 and to this union eight children were born, John “Tom”, James, Charles, Arthur, Patricia, Jerold “Jerry”, Carl and Debra.  

She enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, find-a-word searches and watching Day Time Soaps.

Richard Allan”Dick” Schultz, 68, of Elgin, Iowa died Friday, February 17, 2017 at his home in Elgin, Iowa. He was born on September 19, 1948 to Lloyd William and Aurelia Minnie (Heins) Schultz in Postville, Iowa. Dick was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1966. Dick continued his education at the University of Iowa where he earned his Bachelors in Science, a Masters Degree in Chemistry and an MBA.

Dick was united in marriage with Delores Jean Herman on July 25, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Iowa. The couple adopted two children, Jennifer and Jason. Dick worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City as a Pulmonary Lab Tech for many years. Dick was an avid volleyball player and coached girls’ volleyball. Volleyball, reading, and the study of advanced sciences were his passions throughout his life.

James “Jim” R. Nuss, 80, of Tripoli, died Friday, March 10, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City from complications of a stroke.

Funeral services were held at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating.

Interment was held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye.
