Anna Butikofer

 

 

Anna Marie Butikofer, 80, of Elgin, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. 

Anna Marie, the daughter of Azel and Norma Augusta (Warner) Pratt, was born November 1, 1935 at her home near Elkader, Iowa. 

Ann graduated from Central High School in Elkader.  Prior to her marriage, Ann worked as a switchboard operator for the Elkader Telephone Office.  

Ann was united in marriage with Dan Junior Butikofer on February 14, 1955 at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader.  Four children were born to this union.  

Ann and Dan farmed together and raised their children on a couple of different farms that they rented until 1970.

Royale A. Daniels, 82, of Maynard, Iowa died on Thursday morning, September 29, 2016 at Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein.

 

Funeral Service:  10:30 A.M. Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader, Iowa with Pastor David L. Coffin officiating. 

Visitation:  3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard and for one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Interment:  Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elkader, Iowa.

Memorial Fund:  Highland Lutheran Church.

Louise Marie Tomsheck

Louise Marie Tomsheck

 

 

                  Louise Marie Tomsheck was born August 1, 1920 in Elgin, Iowa the daughter of Benjamin and Clara (Lehman) Baumgartner.

                  She was in Elgin and following high school, Louise attended and graduated from Coe College.  On December 28, 1946 she was united in marriage to Raymond L. Tomsheck.  The couple lived in Harvey, Illinois; Clermont, Iowa and Charles City, Iowa before moving to Knoxville in 1970.  Louise worked as a teacher’s aide for the Knoxville School District, retiring in 1984.  Louise and Ray enjoyed wintering in Arizona for many years.

                  Louise passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab

Center at the age of 96 years.

                  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Maynard resident and a former Maynard resident died last Thursday.

Royale A. Daniels, 82, of Maynard died Sept. 29, 2016, at Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein.

Services were held Monday.

Doris L. Amburgey, 82 of Gladstone, Missouri, formerly of Maynard, also died Sept. 29, 2016.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein was in charge of arrangements for both women.

George Dale Lauer, 83, Clinton, Iowa, formerly of West Union, Iowa, died Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Montezuma Specialty Care, Montezuma, Iowa.

George Dale was born on May 27, 1933 to Clarence and Clara (Buhmann) Lauer in rural Eldorado, Iowa.

He graduated from West Union, Iowa in 1951.

George was united in marriage with Bonnie Taylor on April 24, 1965 at East Clermont Lutheran Church.

George proudly joined the United States Airforce and served in the Korean war.

He became a licensed electrician and plumber. Over the years George owned and operated several business, including the Bettendorf Used Auto Parts. In the 1950’s and 1960’s he was the #1 Dozer operator in Northeast Iowa.

George enjoyed fishing, playing cards and billiards, dancing and building stock cars.

Richard A. “Rick” Shedd, 62, of Maynard, Iowa died Monday, September 26, 2016 at his home.

Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard with Rev. Dennis Frank officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard and after 9:30 A.M. Saturday at the church.

Inurnment: Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in his name to St. Paul Lutheran Church - Maynard, Maynard Fire Department or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Richard Arnold Shedd was born September 18, 1954 at Akron, Iowa the son of Francis Arnold and Ethel Rose (Bryson) Shedd. 

In 1972, he graduated from West Central High School in Maynard.

Josephine M. Heying, 100, of West Union died peacefully at her home on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. James Brokman at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union.

Burial followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, rural West Union.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union. The rosary was recited at 4 p.m. with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union assisted the family with arrangements.

Josephine Marie (Langreck) Heying was born May 22, 1916, in St. Lucas, Iowa, to John and Katherine (Schmitt) Langreck.

Josephine (Jo) attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas, and after high school she completed a semester at St. Therese’s College in Winona, Minn.

Ruth Diane Scott, aged 72, of Bruce, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 10th, 2016 after a 3 year battle with cancer.  She was born to the late Lester (Pete) and Lillian Snyder on July 28, 1944.

Geraldine Mae Shaffer, 94, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at her home in Vinton following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with Rev. Sue Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 22, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.

Geraldine was born July 27, 1922, on the family farm in Elgin, Iowa, the daughter of James D. and Lola Kiple Yearous. She graduated from Elgin High School.

Helen R. Trapp, 96 of Valparaiso, Indiana and formerly of Decorah, Iowa passed away Friday, September 23, 2016. 

She was born January 15, 1920 in West Union, Iowa to the late Harry and Genevieve (Gunderson) Stolle, Sr.

After growing up on a farm and attending Upper Iowa University, Helen worked as an administrative assistant for a newspaper in Dubuque, Iowa. 

Later in life, she volunteered with family services at various Air Force bases and at both St. Vincent’s and Deaconess Hospitals in Billings, Montana. 

Helen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Valparaiso.

On December 12, 1942, Helen married Col. Richard D. Trapp who preceded her in death in 2000. 

She is survived by her sons, Paul (Ann) Trapp of Valparaiso, Ind., and Mark (Chris) Trapp of Wheeling, Ill.; six grandchildren, Joshua, Hans, Heidi, Gwendolyn, Anneliese, and Astrid; and two sisters, Betty Rose and Marilyn Miller.
