Sharon Kahn

 

Sharon Kahn, 64, of West Union, Iowa died on Monday, June 8, 2020 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa. She was born February 29, 1956 to Charles and Judith (Collins) Rowe in Fallbrook, California. Sharon recently celebrated her 'Sweet 16' birthday. Sharon graduated from Starmont High School. 

Sharon was united in marriage with the love of her life, Joe Kahn, in 2000. Sharon worked in food service at Tapt Out and Quillins. Sharon enjoyed being outdoors, working around her yard, taking the dogs to the lake, and going on adventures. Sharon will always be remembered for her fun-loving spirit and her spontaneity. Sharon's love for her grandchildren was uncanny and her face lit up at the pure sight of them. Sharon was perfectly imperfect and will be missed greatly.

Vicki Kay Hodges, 44, of West Union, Iowa died Monday, June 8, 2020 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa. Vicki was born May 23, 1976 to Bernard Thomas and Sharon Rowe in Fallbrook, California. Vicki recently celebrated the 23rd anniversary of her 21st birthday. Vicki graduated from Oelwein High School in 1994.

     Joyce Shindelar, age 76, of Calmar IA, passed away at her home on June 5th, lovingly surrounded by her husband and children after a short battle with cancer. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held from: 3-7 p.m., on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, in Calmar, IA. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ellen L. Hanson, 93, of Fayette, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, June 1, 2020, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.

  She was born January 14, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Benjamin and Edna Harder Douglas. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1945, from Gates Business College in 1947, and then Moody Bible Institute in 1955. Ellen married William "Bill" M. Hanson on October 28, 1955, in Waterloo at the Walnut Street Baptist Church; he died December 7, 2009.

Irene M. Franzen age 90 of St. Lucas, IA, died Friday, June 5, 2020, at her home surrounded by all her children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas, with Rev. Nick Radloff celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Due to COVID restrictions, a luncheon will not take place.  

Friends greetED the family from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at St. Lukes Catholic Church, St. Lucas, with a 7 p.m. parish scripture service with Deacon Jim Zajicek presiding. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday. Leander Charles Stammeyer, age 99, (long time resident of St. Lucas, Iowa), died on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Hillcrest Assisted Living, Sumner, IA where he was currently a resident.

     Lee was born on March 31, 1921 the eldest of 12 children born to Peter and Magdalena (Klemmer) Stammeyer.  Lee was a third generation American.  He was raised on a farm east of St. Lucas.  He attended school at St. Lucas grade school.  In 1938 he was offered a high school scholarship to St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, WI where he graduated in 1940.  

After high school, Lee came home to help his dad (Pete) in the electrical field for a short time before enrolling in the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago in 1941.  After graduating from Coyne in 1942 he attended Radio Operating School in Gallups Island, NY graduating in 1943.

Clair W. Bentley, 85, of Stratford, Iowa died Sunday, June 7, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2020 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington, Iowa with Pastor Joshua Schunk officiating.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at the Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington.
