Dorline Allbee

 

Dorline Allbee returned to her heavenly father at age 98 on May 23, 2020, while in residence at Stoney Brook Village in West Union, Iowa. Dorline Marie (Kirchmann) Allbee, daughter of Hulda (Meyer) and Edward Kirchmann was born in Sumner, Iowa, on August 19, 1921.  She was baptized on September 4, 1921, and later confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sumner, Iowa.  She graduated from Sumner High School in May 1938.    She married Dale Allbee on October 26, 1940, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa.   The couple initially lived in Waterloo, Iowa, but moved to West Union after Dale returned home in 1946 following service in the navy during World War II.    The couple had two children – Judy and Alan.

Darlene Elsbernd, age 83, died on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at her home in Calmar, IA.  

A private family burial was held on May 5, 2020. 

A memorial mass and celebration of life will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar after the restrictions from COVID-19 are lifted.  

Darlene was born December 16, 1936 to Edward and Agnes Langreck in West Union, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm with three younger brothers LaVern, Jerry, and Billy. She attended grade school in St Lucas and graduated from St. Luke's High School in St. Lucas, Iowa in 1954.

Eunice J. Nading, 102, of West Union, Iowa died peacefully in her home with family by her side on Sunday, May IO, 2020. Eunice, the daughter of Arthur and Hilda (Lemke) Staack, was born on June 17, 1917 in Guttenberg, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center, Iowa. At the age of 2 years, Eunice moved with her parents to a farm near Clayton Center, where she was raised in a German community and attended Denmark Country School. During her childhood, Eunice spoke only German in her Clayton Center home and in church.

Elaine M. Bodensteiner, age 85 of St. Lucas, IA died on Mother’s Day, May 10th, 2020 at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah, IA from complications of a stroke suffered on July 21st, 2017.

A private family wake and burial service will be held on Friday, May 15th, 2020 with internment at St. Luke’s Cemetery, St. Lucas Iowa.

Germaine Beckman, 87, of Ossian, Iowa returned to her creator on Sunday morning, May 3, 2020 with her family by her side at the Ossian Senior Hospice where she received excellent care along with the staff of Winneshiek Medical Center Home Health and Hospice.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, a private family funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa with committal to follow in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery.  

A memorial Mass will be held at a later date for extended family and friends. 

The Jamison – Schmitz Funeral Home out of Oelwein, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that a memorial gift be given to St. Francis de Sales Parish, 

the Ossian Ambulance Service, or the Winneshiek Medical Center Home Health and Hospice.

  Esther Anna Timp, age 95 of Calmar, IA, died on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the home of her son Gary surrounded by her family.  

A private family service will be held for Esther’s on Monday, May 11, 2020 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar with Rev. Robert Gross presiding.  The service will be livestreamed at 11 a.m. on https://www.facebook.com/CFOSparishes Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery.

Dorothy Marie Perry, 77, of Castalia, Iowa died Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Dorothy was born November 3, 1942 to Lawrence and Effie (Ewing) Martin in Waukon, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade.

 

Dorothy was united in marriage with Lavern Perry on October 2, 1962 in Preston, Minnesota.  She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. Dorothy worked for Iowa Turkey Products for a short time. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, listening to country music, baking, making special cakes for her children, canning and spending time with her grandchildren.

Velma Moorhead

Velma Moorhead

 

Velma Moorhead, 89, passed away April 28, 2020 in Scottsdale, AZ.  She was born September 12, 1930 in Clermont, IA to Alphie and Myrtle (Lien) Thorson. Velma married Eugene Moorhead in 1952 and lived in Davenport until they moved in 1963 to Phoenix, AZ with their three children.  

Velma worked for Triangle Furniture Warehouse for 30 years rising to Office Manager before retiring.  She will be remembered as loving, kind, caring and devoted to family.  She remained close to her family and friends in Iowa and returned to visit over the years.  

Velma was predeceased by her baby Lenny Dean Moorhead, her husband Eugene, her parents, her sister Minerva Bacon, and her brother Eugene Thorson. 

She is survived by her brother Charles Thorson, her daughters Deborah Moorhead (Joe Juarez) of Scottsdale, AZ, Cynthia Moorhead of Yuma, AZ, son Steven Moorhead of Onalaska, WI;  grandchildren Eric Juarez, and Ian, Kathryn and Emma Moorhead.

Donald Alcorn

Donald Alcorn

 

 Donald Eugene Alcorn, 84, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at his home in Clermont, Iowa from cancer.

 Don was born March 6, 1936, to Eugene and Pauline Alcorn of West Union

 A  celebration of life will be held at a later date.

 Don grew up in West Union and in 1954 he graduated from West Union High and joined the Air Force. He served for twenty years, which included overseas tours in Okinawa, Vietnam, and Thailand. He retired from the Air Force in 1974 and returned home to Northeast Iowa. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and supported many wildlife and conservation organizations. He also supported human rights, saving endangered species, conserving drinkable, fishable, swimmable waterways, and many, many other organizations too numerous to mention.

 He is survived by his wife, Patsy, two nieces and a nephew, cousins and many, many wonderful friends.
