Lorna Bernau

 

 

Lorna Bonita Bernau, 89, of West Union, Iowa died February 28, 2020 at Stoney Brook Village, West Union, Iowa.

She was born December 14, 1930 to Milton and Agnes (Hegland) Eide at home in Castalia. Lorna graduated from West Union High School in 1948 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa for two years.

Lorna was united in marriage with Albert “Cuddy” Bernau on April 9, 1955 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Together they raised four children, Marcia, Cindy, Bruce and Nancy.

Lorna was a teacher, homemaker and along with her husband operated Cuddy’s Boot Hill Supper Club for twenty-five years. She was an active member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church Morning Circle, the Presbyterian Women’s Group and was on Diaconate. Lorna loved playing bridge and golfing with friends.

Robert August Schultz was born August 17, 1924, in Postville, Iowa. He died at Unity Point Health, Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 95 years old. He was the younger of two children born to Lawrence and Lucille Schultz.  

Robert graduated from Luana Consolidated High School in Luana, Iowa in 1941 and started a farming career just outside of Luana.

On September 15, 1946, Robert married Hilda Elizabeth “Betty” Strauch in the Methodist Church in Elgin, Iowa. Robert and Betty made their home on a farm north of Luana for 60 years. They were lifetime residents of Luana, Iowa.

On May 27, 1948, a daughter, Susan Kay, was born. Another daughter, Deborah Jane, was born on April 7, 1950. Deborah Jane succumbed to leukemia after a three-year illness in 1957. On October 2, 1956, a son, David Lawrence was born.

Sylvia Victoria Loftsgard, 88, of Postville, Iowa died Monday, February 17, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa.  Sylvia was born July 12, 1931 to Victor and Jennie (Wolfs) Guyer at home in rural West Union. She taught at Riverside, rural Clermont for a year.

Sylvia was united in marriage with Orven Loftsgard on June 7, 1951 at West Clermont Lutheran Church. Five children were born to this union. Together with her husband, Sylvia helped on the farm and raised the children. Her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, playing piano and accordion. Sylvia was a great cook and loved to teach the grandchildren to sing. She was active in Gideons.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 1-3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union for Bradley Joe Tempel, 57, of West Union.

 Bradley died on February 15. He was the son of Ron and Deloris Tempel and was a 1981 graduate of North High School.

 Eleanor “Ellie” Theresa Maas, 78, of Lamont, Iowa entered into her eternal rest on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

     Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Strawberry Point with Rev. John Haugen officiating. 

Visitration was held from 4 until 7:30 p.m.  on Thursday and for one hour before the service on Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point.

Parish Scripture Service:  7:30 P.M. on Thursday at the church.

Final Resting Place: St. Albert Cemetery, Lamont, Iowa.

Travis Cooley, 41, of Hawkeye, Iowa,  died Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital, West Union, Iowa.  He was born March 20, 1978 to Ronald and Cheri (Holtberg) Cooley in West Union, Iowa. Travis was baptized at Zion Lutheran in West Union, Iowa and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Hawkeye, Iowa. He graduated from North Fayette High School in 1996 and attended NICC in Calmar for Welding and Hawkeye Community College for Automotive Technology.

     Andrew “Andy” James Jones, 44, of Hawkeye, Iowa died Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa.  Andrew James was born July 22, 1975 to Leo James and Linda (Thompson) Jones in Waterloo, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Hawkeye, Iowa. He graduated from North Fayette High School in 1994.

Craig Henry Mundt, age 70 of Ossian, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at his home. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. and 1 hour before the service on Saturday. 

Craig was born September 27, 1949, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Leslie and Leora (Bloxham) Mundt. Craig graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1967. He then attended NIACC in Mason City, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Linda Martie on December 7, 1973 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa.

Craig and Linda farmed with his parents on the family farm for 22 years at which time he went on to work at Camcar - Stanley Black and Decker for another 22 years. Craig then became ill with esophageal cancer, which he has battled for the last 4 1/2 years.

Margaret E. Halverson, 87, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, February 12th, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 18th, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Sterling Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, WI. Friends could call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
